The Theory

Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) will show up in Matt Reeves' upcoming solo Batman movie.

Why It Might Be True

Though Reeves insisted throughout pre-production of The Batman that it will be a standalone superhero film disconnected from any other continuity, it wouldn't be remotely surprising if plans changed in recent months following the shocking critical and commercial success of Todd Phillips' Joker.

After all, Phoenix's version of the character could simply be featured in the film in cameo form, either in order to set up a future conflict or, more likely, just serve as connective tissue between the two films.

It's a neat idea, yet one which faces one especially inconvenient hurdle - Joker was set in 1981, while The Batman is likely to be set around the present day.

As such, the only way we're getting Arthur Fleck in The Batman is either in flashbacks or as an old man which, honestly, could be pretty incredible if the makeup effects are done right.
