10 Insane Movie Moments You Won't Believe You Never Spotted
2. John McClane's "Cameo" - Pearl Harbor
Michael Bay's Pearl Harbor is such a sensory assault of a movie - occasionally in a good way, mostly in a bad way - that you couldn't really be blamed for missing this fleeting moment coming roughly two-hours into this surprisingly snoozy three-hour war epic.
The scene focuses on nurse Sandra (Jennifer Garner) as she tends to victims of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, and just as colleague Evelyn (Kate Beckinsale) tells her to get back to work, an incredibly familiar-looking extra walks past Sandra in the background.
The man in question - short-haired, covered in blood and oil, and rocking a dirty tank top - bears an incredible resemblance to Bruce Willis' hero John McClane from the first Die Hard film.
Some have suggested that Bay included the McClane lookalike in the scene as an intentional nod to the iconic action flick, while others have more outlandishly theorised he may have digitally inserted footage of Willis from Die Hard into the background of the scene.
The first possibility is certainly the far more likely of the two, though it's also entirely possible that it's simply a coincidence that this largely out-of-focus extra bares a decent superficial resemblance to McClane. Either way, it's a bit of a mind-melter once you know it's there.
