10 Insane Movie Theories (That Are Clearly True)

1. Childs Is The Thing, The Drink Is A Test - The Thing

thething-ending And yet, my favourite crazy fan theory refers to the end of John Carpenter's classic sci-fi picture The Thing, whereby MacReady (Kurt Russell) and Childs (Keith David) meet up in the snow, both exhausted and slowly succumbing to the elements. Without hope and realising that neither can be sure whether the other is The Thing or not, MacReady hands a bottle of scotch to Childs, and the two drink as the camp burns, in what is surely one of the bleakest cinematic endings in history. It gets even more interesting, though, if you subscribe to the theory that MacReady, who had been throwing around Molotov cocktails earlier, filled the scotch bottle with gasoline, as a final test to see if Childs was infected or not. You see, The Thing would not react with disgust to the gasoline, whereas a human being would, and given Childs' unfussed reaction, he must be The Thing, while all MacReady can do is sit on and accept the mutually assured destruction of himself and The Thing (at least for the time being). Dark. Which crazy fan theory is your favourite? Let us know in the comments below.
