1. James Bond Is A Code Name - The Bond Franchise
The Crazy Theory: James Bond isn't the name of a man, but a code name. All the James Bonds we've seen in the twenty-three film strong franchise aren't all the same man, but just spies using the same name. Ah, that's why Daniel Craig doesn't spend all his time going, "Did I tell you about the time I went melting glacier wind surfing?"
Why It Cant Be True: This theory used to hold an incredible amount of weight. The Bond series never really had an overarching continuity. Yes Lazenby inexplicably had Connerys gadgets on his desk and Blofeld kept popping up, but there was no drive to have it all linked up. Now every franchise movie has to be part of something bigger (or a reboot), fans wanted a way for Bond to work like this. The Casino Royale reboot ended up giving us a fresh start of the continuity - Bond became a spy and the following films are clearly in the same world - which quelled and bolstered the argument in equal measure. That is until Daniel Craigs latest actually disproved it. In Skyfalls final act we get to see Bonds childhood home and learn about his past (pretty shocking for the series, even if it was to celebrate its fiftieth year). We see not only that as a child the suave spy was called James, but his parents had the last name Bond. Unless MI6s hiring for the 007 program using only people who already have the code name already, I think Sam Mendes has pretty much put this theory to bed.
