10 Insane Reasons Actors Didn't Return For Movie Sequels
6. Evan Rachel Wood's Role Was Recast... For Some Reason - Practical Magic 2
Though Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman will be returning for the currently-shooting fantasy romance Practical Magic 2, another prominent name from the original 1998 film evidently hasn't made the cut.
At just 10 years of age, Evan Rachel Wood played Kylie Owens in the original film - the eldest daughter of Sandra Bullock's witch protagonist Sally.
And considering how Wood has become a veritable star in her own right - best known for her role in HBO's Westworld - it was surprising not to see her name among the sequel's cast list.
After it was announced that Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing would be reprising their supporting roles, Wood issued a statement revealing that she wasn't asked to come back for Practical Magic 2.
More to the point, she actively offered her acting services to the production, but was told that the role was being recast much to her disappointment.
Considering that Wood is a terrific actress and was enthusiastic to return, it's certainly an odd choice to recast.
As for who is taking Wood's place? That information hasn't yet been made public, though with Joey King and Maisie Williams being among the confirmed cast, it's possible that Warner Bros. sought out a younger actress for the part... for some reason.
