Though there are many totally reasonable rumours about the upcoming 25th James Bond film - namely that Rami Malek's villain Safin is actually a rebooted Dr. No - the most outlandish whisper doing the rounds is that the movie may culminate with the death of 007 himself.

While Bond has had countless near-fateful run-ins over the years, he's never been given an actual dirt-nap, even with each new actor effectively appearing in their own implied continuity.

Yet word came out last year that original director Danny Boyle quit the film after arguing with producers over whether or not 007 should die, implying that there's a solid possibility Craig's tenure will end with him actually biting the bullet.

It'd certainly be a unique way to transition from one Bond to the next, and if executed with sufficient panache, could make for the most emotional ending to any Bond film ever.

Don't be surprised if this isn't the case, of course, given Bond's stature as an enduring screen relic, but it'd be nothing if not a bold way to close the book on almost 15 years of Craig movies.
