10 Insane Rumours For Upcoming Superhero Movies

Is Tom Cruise going to make a cameo in the Doctor Strange sequel?

There is no film genre more feverishly discussed by fans than that of the superhero movie.

In addition to being insanely lucrative for studios, comic book fare tends to incite an apoplectic level of excitement among even fully-grown adults, about seeing their most beloved characters brought to life on the big screen.

As such, the rumour mill runs rampant whenever a new major superhero film is announced, and because these movies can spend several years going through production, fans have a lot of time on their hands to speculate about what may or may not happen.

It's certainly plenty fun to theorise about what a new comic book film might have in store for us, and even read supposed "insider information" that often ends up being total bunk.

And so, it's absolutely worth taking these completely mental rumours for upcoming superhero movies with a giant truckload of salt, even if they're mostly not outside the realm of possibility either. Again, mostly.

But until we're sat down and watching each movie for ourselves, we're free to speculate on whether these left-field rumours could actually have an element of truth to them...

10. Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin Is The Main Villain - Spider-Man: No Way Home

Spider-Man: No Way Home is by far the most anticipated superhero movie currently due for release this year, because if the scuttlebutt is true, it's basically going to be a live-action Spider-Verse film.

It's already been confirmed that Alfred Molina and Jamie Foxx will be returning to play Doctor Octopus and Electro from the Sam Raimi and Marc Webb Spider-Man franchises, and it's also heavily rumoured that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will appear as their respective alt-universe iterations of the web-slinger himself.

But surely the most insane and exciting rumour of all? That Willem Dafoe will be reprising the role of Norman Osborn aka the Green Goblin in the film, and better yet, will be No Way Home's primary antagonist.

Reports of dubious authenticity have claimed that Dafoe was spotted on the film's set, but without any pictorial evidence of his presence and the actor keeping understandably quiet about the part, it remains entirely unconfirmed for now.

Yet given the film's clear desire to tie all three Spider-Man continuities together, it sure would make sense for one of its most acclaimed villains to make an appearance.

Needless to say, the fan service would be off the charts if we get to see Dafoe mugging around like a madman almost 20 years after he did it so brilliantly in Raimi's original Spider-Man.

How Likely Is It?: This honestly sounds pretty damn credible, so we'll go with it being absolutely true until proven otherwise.
