After the predictably strong box office success of Deadpool 2, it was just a matter of time before a third film was put in motion, though this was also complicated by Disney's acquisition of Fox, ensuring that another sequel hasn't arrived as speedily as it otherwise would have.

With Deadpool now under the banner of Marvel Studios, it begs the question of how to integrate an R-rated character into the intensely family-friendly Marvel Cinematic Universe.

And while the film reportedly won't start shooting until at least a year from now, rumours are emerging of how the narrative will fold the Merc with a Mouth into the MCU despite the obvious tonal differences.

If the rumours can be believed, Deadpool 3 will actually use Thanos' (Josh Brolin) snap to effectively retcon the Fox movies, snapping away most of the supporting cast - notably T.J. Miller's Weasel - with Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) assuming his prior time travel shenanigans were responsible.

The report also suggests the film will slot into the MCU in much the same way that Sony's Marvel films like Venom and Morbius do, by existing within the same world but in a fairly fringe, superficial way.

How Likely Is It?: It's certainly an inspired idea to bring Deadpool into the MCU via the snap, but the fact that the rumour also claims the film will be called Deadpool: Retcon, among other dubious things, suggests wishful fan thinking rather than something legitimate.

Conceptually it's certainly not impossible, but one suspects this rumour was cobbled up by an excited fan, especially as Ryan Reynolds himself recently confirmed the script is still being written. Then again, you never know...
