6. Batman Hanging & Burned (The Dark Knight)

The Concept: This unused storyboard for The Dark Knight shows Batman (well, presumably one of his many imitators) hanging from a lamp-post, with the bottom of his suit possibly burned away. Why It's Too Extreme: The idea of The Joker murdering Batman imitators was actually used in the final movie, though Nolan made sure to keep the violence as infrequent as possible. Rather than showing haunting imagery such as the above, we got a brief jump scare as a fake Batman's corpse was thrown against the Mayor's office, whereas the above shot would likely be pushing the PG-13 button pretty hard, especially if the deformed bottom part of the suit really is due to burning or some such torture. In Nolan's defense, he still managed to put his point across, even if this beautifully grim storyboard would have been jaw-dropping to see in motion.
