10 Insane Theories That Improve Bad Movies

6. Terminator: Salvation Is A Sequel To Testament

I nearly choked on my popcorn when Jane Alexander showed up in Terminator: Salvation, because a) I was astounded that they gave her such a small, insignificant part, and b) there's another post-apocalyptic film she's starred in that's a whole lot better. Indeed, Alexander was nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for her role in 1983's searing drama Testament, as a mother trying to keep her family from falling to pieces in the wake of a nuclear apocalypse. But what if, in fact, Terminator: Salvation is set in the same universe as Testament? What if Alexander's Carol from Testament is still clinging to life decades after the bombs dropped, her family having presumably died, and so she's fallen in with the resistance against the machines? McG's casting an actress of Alexander's calibre for such a tiny role otherwise seems very strange indeed, so we like to think she is in effect playing the same character, and the casting was inspired rather than accidental. Otherwise, Salvation is just a crappy Terminator sequel and nothing else.
