10 Insane Things Movie Fans Did For Their Favourite Actors

2. Stalker Visited Gwyneth Paltrow's Parents At Their Home

After Gwyneth Paltrow won her Best Actress Oscar in 1999 for Shakespeare In Love, she shot to a level of stardom only occupied by the true, bonafide Hollywood elite. And with that came a lot more attention, both desirable and undesirable.

In an example of the latter, the actress was stalked by crazed fan Dante Michael Soiu for months, and he sent her numerous letters and gifts. These were usually sexually-explicit; Paltrow would often receive sex toys and pornography, and letters containing statements saying that Soiu wanted to "cleanse her of sin."

To make matters even more insane, Soiu reportedly showed up outside her parents' home, not once, but twice, just so he could try and get closer to the actress.

Soiu was convicted in December 2000 and sentenced to time in a psychiatric facility, but his obsession with Paltrow continued. In 2009 he sent her a pair of earrings, and even wrote letters saying "I have a goal: to marry Gwyneth Paltrow and take care of her.” A bit of advice: that's not a good way to propose.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
