10 Insane Times Supervillains Lost Their Powers

7. Sebastian Shaw's Abilities Were Nullified By Xavier

Sebastian Shaw is an interesting villain, and under normal circumstances, he's almost impossible to defeat, because he has the ability to absorb different forms of energy. This means even punching him in the face won't do anything more than transfer your kinetic energy into his body, and that's not what a punch is going for.

In X-Men: First Class, Shaw is shown to be the man responsible for Magneto's mother's death while he was a boy in Auschwitz. He also helped him to unlock his abilities by showing him that his rage could be used as a trigger, but that didn't make it possible for Magneto to defeat Shaw.

At the end of the film, it's clear that there isn't much anyone can do to stop Shaw, as he has a special helmet capable of negating Charles' mental attacks, but Magneto manages to pull it off him. When he does this, Charles steps in, and freezes Shaw in place.

Technically, his powers weren't lost at this point, but his ability to use them was completely nullified. Magneto took the opportunity to exact his revenge by pushing a coin through the man's forehead, and then out the back of his head, killing him where he stood.
