After the cinematic spectacle of Denis Villeneuve's first instalment of Dune (2021), critics and audiences have been eagerly awaiting to see how he'll top it.

No doubt the visual components will be alluring on their own, but Villeneuve isn't taking any chances; evident by his decision to cast Christopher Walken in the role of Emperor Shaddam IV.

Emperor Shaddam is an extremely powerful, yet insecure ruler, who's scheming with the first film's primary antagonists, the Harkonnens, led to the downfall of House Atreides. Walken will certainly cut an imposing figure as the ruler of the Known Universe, and there's no doubt he'll bring all the majesty required to play the role. But it's his distinctive voice that will help make his appearance memorable.

When you cast Christopher Walken in a movie, he's going to play Christopher Walken. If there's been a constant in all of his roles, it's been his Queens accent and his distinctive staccato cadence. For a story set in another universe, it might be a little odd to have a character sound like New York tough guy, then again who doesn't want to hear Christopher Walken say "spice"?
