10 Insane Ways Iconic Movie Special Effects Were Achieved

8. A 1.5 Mile Freeway Was Constructed For The Iconic Chase Sequence (The Matrix Reloaded)

tumblr_ml93zdqgXu1r3rloeo1_500 I don't know about you, but whenever I sit down to watch The Matrix Reloaded (don't fret: it doesn't happen very often) I'm always curious as to how they managed to film a sequence as huge and intricate and horribly dangerous as the freeway chase. I mean, when you watch the scene, it looks as though the cast and crew just turned up on a random freeway somewhere and started shooting admist the civilian population. Though that would have been awesome, it turns out they had an entirely different (and more appropriate solution): build their own freeway. Kind of insane, right? The freeway was constructed on an old airport strip, had a three lane loop, and cost millions and millions of dollars. And it definitely paid off, given that the freeway chase segment of movie is an incredible feat blockbuster filmmaking. Shame about the rest of the flick, though.
