Following the billion-dollar success of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, we went through a weird phase where dark and gritty reboots of popular fairy tales suddenly became Hollywood's new favorite genre for all of ten minutes.

While a few of them found critical and commercial success, the vast majority of them were almost instantly forgotten about, with Bryan Singer's Jack the Giant Slayer arguably both the most pointless and least memorable one of the lot.

For unexplained reasons, Warner Bros. decided that the movie was worth investing as much as $220m into, despite not a single person voicing their enthusiasm for it at any stage. Ewan McGregor clearly enjoyed himself, but the rest of the cast were clearly only there for the paycheck, while most of the audiences that actually turned up struggled to even stay awake.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
