10 Insanely Expensive Movies You Forgot Even Existed

3. The Huntsman: Winter's War

As mentioned previously, dark and gritty fairy tale reboots were all the rage for a second at the turn of the last decade, and Snow White and the Hunstman turned out to be one of the sub-genre's biggest success stories after raking in almost $400m at the box office.

However, it wasn't exactly crying out for a sequel, especially one that focused on Chris Hemsworth's oddly-accented Huntsman, but given the controversies that surrounded Kristen Stewart and director Rupert Sanders following its release, both were dropped for the completely unnecessary follow-up.

A confused mix of sequel and prequel that even roped Liam Neeson in to join the dots as narrator, Winter's War seemed destined for failure from the very start, and it at least lived up to those expectations by earning a meager $165m globally against a $115m budget. Quite why Universal thought that a second installment in a Snow White franchise that didn't even feature Snow White this time around would be a license to print money is still one of life's great mysteries.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
