Be that as it may, Antichrist is another devastatingly intense film full of strange, impactful imagery and one that tells a tight, succinct story. After the death of their child due to their own negligence, a couple retreat to their cabin in the woods so that they can process their grief. She wants to complete her university thesis on gynocide – the murder of women – but she begins to develop pathological beliefs and overwhelming fears about the evil inherent in nature, which she calls ‘Satan’s church’.
