10 Inspiring Documentaries That Could Change Your Life

7. Exit Through The Gift Shop

Directed by Banksy, Exit Through the Gift Shop is a documentary exploring the life and achievements of French immigrant, Thierry Guetta, examining his almost obsessive relationship with street-artistry. It’s essentially a showcase, revolving around an inextricably weird and wonderful central character, whose personality alone is immediately engaging.

Interestingly, the documentary draws on a wealth of footage captured by the subject himself, captured years before he immigrated to Los Angeles and became the subject of this film. In fact, it’s so wonderfully bizarre that many critics have made the suggestion that the film is actually a mockumentary – which honestly isn’t completely implausible – but the filmmakers have repeatedly insisted this isn’t the case, including Banksy himself.

Regardless, the documentary is completely inspiring because instead of focusing on a larger cultural movement or phenomenon, it chooses the highlight the struggles of a single, solitary person, which is much more relatable, as well as moving.
