10 Intense Horror Movies That Dared You To Sit Through Them

3. Climax

Incident in a Ghostland
A24

In Climax, a French troupe gather for a dance rehearsal in an empty school. After someone spikes their sangria with LSD, the dancers are quickly overcome with paranoia, psychoses, hallucinations, violence, and overwhelming impulse to commit murder.

Although Trainspotting is considered the gold-standard in showing the disastrous effects of drugs, Climax gives Danny Boyle's classic a run for its money. To ensure the audience witnesses the full effects of the hallucinogenics, the second-half of the movie is composed of a single, unbroken 42-minute take. Because of this, viewers don't get a break, not even for a second, while watching these poor souls losing their collective minds (as well as their lives).

And as the effects of the LSD escalate and the camerawork becomes more erratic, the audience feels like they're going on this nightmarish trip alongside these characters.

Because Climax takes a while to get the ball rolling, some will be eager for the story to cut to the chase. But when all hell breaks loose, it becomes so unbearable to watch, viewers will breathe a sigh of relief when it's all over.
