10 International Smash-Hits That America Somehow Hated

6. Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time

princeofpersianewwide-600x300 Not only is this the largest budget ever for a video game adaptation, it is also one of the worst adaptations. The Sands of Time boasted a sizeable budget of $200 million. The film was a domestic failure though and could not even gross half of that back domestically. It€™s a good thing for Disney international audiences did not get turned off by absurdities such as Jake Gyllenhaal playing a Persian prince or bastardizations of the source material. Despite America's lukewarm reception The Sand of Time grossed over $200 million internationally and is one of the most financially successful video game adaptations produced. If there is one positive observation to take here it is that with decent budgeting and international appeal video game adaptations can succeed. We just need someone with potential to make the first truly great adaptation and light a fire for an untapped market.
