10 Intriguing Movie Roles Matt Smith Should Play
1. Professor Bernard Quatermass
Luther Arkwright is a good potential franchise for Smith but it could be seen as a risk, erring as the book did on the experimental side. Should filmmakers be on the hunt for something established with possible commercial appeal then there's one character that suits Smith down to the ground and a little way beneath it for good measure - alien busting boffin Professor Quatermass!
The invention of visionary writer Nigel Kneale, the compassionate man of science endured four TV series and most importantly three movies from the Hammer Horror label. The new incarnation of Hammer were quoted in 2012 as wanting to revive the decade-spanning hero. Smith is in prime position to assume the mantle. Indeed Time Lords have form when it comes to Quatermass's encounters, with David Tennant (that man again!) appearing in the BBC Four live broadcast of a decade ago.
Another juicy prospect about Bernard is he's never had a definitive portrayal. In fact, he's had almost as many face lifts as the Doctor. Should Smith manage to get his rather charming hooks into the brand, the scene could be set for his instantly identifiable mug to rock up at the British Rocket Group.
