What would do Smith the power of good movie-wise is a distinctive adaptation of a strong British character. That way he could fly the flag overseas as well as draw attention to his immense skill as an actor. Cult comic book The Adventures of Luther Arkwright is a property waiting for him to put his stamp all over it.

The creation of Bryan Talbot, the narrative followed dimension-hopping agent Arkwright, an operator with a knack of moving between parallel universes. He was even assisted by a telepath called Rose, and if that isn't a big TARDIS-shaped hint that this former Doctor is tailor made for the role, then what is? (Smith's predecessor David Tennant took the part on audio.)

Film company Benderspink were interested in taking Luther to the movies, so the desire to get the project moving is there. Perhaps all Smith has to do is snap his fingers for the doors of opportunity to swing open...
