10 Justice League Surprises That Could Totally Happen

3. Darkseid Betrays Steppenwolf

When Justice League was initially announced, fans were expected the movie's big bad to be Darkseid, rather than his uncle Steppenwolf.

This is logical, given that warmongering alien is the superhero team's arch nemesis, and therefore you can bet the farm on him having some kind of role in the film, Batman's Dawn of Justice Knightmare confirmed as much.

Ciaran Hinds, the actor who is playing Steppenwolf in Justice League, confirmed there is friction between his character and his all-powerful nephew Darkseid, who has basically forced his kin into military servitude.

Speaking in an interview on The Michael Ball Show, he also hinted that Steppenwolf wants out of the arrangement, but described his character as “old” and “tired”.

Darkseid, who has been lurking in the shadows much like Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is unlikely to be the type to tolerate failure, and will almost certainly betray Steppenwolf if he's no longer of use to him.

Should Steppenwolf be thwarted in his mission to secure Earth's Mother Boxes, it sounds like Darkseid would have no trouble taking his aged, fatigued uncle apart.

Could Steppenwolf end up helping the Justice League take down a mutual, and more deadly foe by the end of the movie?
