Legion is your typical story where bad things happen to good people, except here those things include becoming an unwitting soldier in a battle that will ensure the future of the human race.
Turns out that God has wandered off the reservation and, just like Howard Beale in Network, he’s mad as hell and can’t take it anymore. So he does what all self-respecting Gods have done throughout history and sends his angels to Earth to possesses weak-willed folk and turn them into mindless assassins.
You gotta have faith with a movie like Legion because it’s kind of silly, but director Scott Stewart and his very game cast put a straight face on the proceedings and never mine the material for cheap laughs, not even when a zombie ice cream man (played by Doug Jones) makes an appearance. The action is slick and crisply choreographed and Stewart keeps everything rattling along at such a pace that only the most spiteful viewer would say they didn’t get their money’s worth.
