4. Hal Jordan - The Green Lantern
Before I start I must say that I believe Ryan Reynolds gets a lot of hate he doesn't deserve. He's a talented comedic actor with some successful dramatic roles under his belt and I enjoy watching him in films. This being said, his performance in The Green Lantern certainly left a lot to be desired. His sub-par Hal Jordan is mainly down to the plotting of the film, which squandered a fantastic cast on what was basically a 2 hour light show. Jordan, an earnest yet cocky test pilot for Ferris aircraft is chosen to join the Green Lantern Corps by a magical ring. He chosen as the guardian of Sector 2814 as the ring believed him to be a worthy successor to the previous Lantern Abin Sur. From here we are given a hackneyed story about accepting responsibility with the character of Jordan nowhere near layered enough to make him a compelling. This is a huge disappointment due to the plethora of source material and the relatively success of super hero movies at the box office. Too much time was spent on the visual aspects that the cast fell by the wayside, it's not right to be too hard on the actors when they were secondary to what the film was trying to achieve. It amounted to watching Ryan Reynolds going through the motions, which is fine in films like R.I.P.D. but perhaps not for a DC property as important as The Green Lantern.
