10 Last-Minute Changes That Saved Horror Movies

9. Removing The Cat-Baboon Scene - The Fly

For the most part, David Cronenberg's Fly remake plays out like a tragedy, as eccentric physicist Seth Brundle (Jeff Goldblum) successfully teleports himself between two telepods and believes his invention will change the world.

However, a fly flies into the pod during that experiment, causing Brundle to gradually mutate into an insect hybrid. Even though he commits acts of violence and melts a hand or two, Seth remains a sympathetic figure, especially when he later begs his partner to blow his brains out.

Having said that, Brundle would've been perceived very differently if a deleted scene was included. After realising the changes in his body are due to absorbing fly DNA, Seth tries to create a cat-baboon hybrid. After teleporting the creatures, they fuse into a violent monstrosity, forcing Brundle to beat it to death with a pipe.

Although many of Seth Brundle's questionable actions were due to his humanity dwindling away, this moment portrays him in the wrong light. Since no good can come from this barbaric experiment, it makes the charismatic physicist come across as an outright villain.
