10 Last-Minute Changes That Saved Horror Movies
6. A Plothole Forced A Major Rewrite - 28 Days Later
There's no doubt 28 Days Later pushed the zombie resurgence during the millennium - which is ironic since the film contains no zombies - but things could've worked out differently if the post-apocalyptical thriller stuck with its initial script.
When Frank transforms into an Infected after becoming exposed to the Rage virus at the halfway point, Jim was meant to knock Frank out and take him to a medical complex. While there, Jim's group discovers a mysterious scientist who reveals the Infected can be cured with a full blood transfusion. However, this procedure will turn the blood donor into an Infected. For the sake of Frank's daughter, Jim uses his blood to cure Frank but becomes an Infected in the process.
Although it's a creative idea, there was one massive problem. How could the blood be switched from one body to another without contaminating both characters with the Rage virus? The only way this could happen is if Frank's body was drained dry, which would obviously kill him.
Due to this massive oversight, the entire second half of 28 Days Later had to be completely rewritten. Fortunately, it all worked out and the film's legacy has continued to endure to this day.
