If someone is at the helm of one of the biggest series in cinematic history, you'd expect that person to have a pretty keen eye for detail.

Even though he is responsible for conceiving a universe that is adored the world over, George Lucas isn't a perfect director.

Nobody is, in his defence, but to miss a detail that is intrinsic to your historic prior releases is borderline unforgivable.

The detail in question is that of Obi Wan Kenobi eventually handing Luke Skywalker his father's lightsaber in Episode IV: A New Hope. You know the one.

After shooting the iconic Anakin Skywalker Vs Kenobi duel at the end of Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, Lucas took the footage to be edited. It was only in that editing suite that Lucas realised he hadn't shot the beat where Kenobi picked up Anakin's lightsaber after slicing his padawan to pieces.

Can you imagine the Star Wars fandom's outrage if such a pivotal incident hadn't been captured on-screen?

By no means was the prequel trilogy met with same love as the original trifecta, but Episode III tends to be ranked as the fan favourite of the three and it could have been dealt a seismic plot hole if Lucas hadn't realised his mistake.
