10 Last-Minute Replacements If Ben Affleck Quits The Batman
6. Matt Bomer
This may be an article suggesting actors to take up the role of Batman should Ben Affleck walk away, but it should be noted that Matt Bomer has a long history with the other half of DC's 'Big Two'.
Bomer screen-tested for Superman 15 years ago (opposite Amy Adams, interestingly enough) during pre-production on the abandoned Superman: Flyby and was again rumored during Man of Steel's casting process. Not only that, but the actor has played 'The Big Blue Boy Scout' twice; voicing the character in the animated Superman: Unbound and in a couple of unintentionally hilarious Japanese Toyota Prius commercials from 2009. No, seriously.
As his work over six seasons of White Collar demonstrated, Bomer has the necessary charisma and charm to play suave playboy Bruce Wayne, but a huge question mark remains over his action credentials, which is surely nothing several months of the requisite fight training can't fix.
The actor also looks the part, with a square jaw that would look right at home under the cowl and the physique that the character demands. The Golden Globe winner turns 40 in a few months but could easily pass for much younger, with the potential to grow into the role over a number of years much like Chris' Evans and Hemsworth have done over at Marvel Studios.
However, would it be ridiculous to say that Bomer looks too similar to Henry Cavill to be under serious consideration? The DCEU seems to be pitting Batman and Superman as opposite sides of the same justice-related coin, but that would be a little jarring if they looked like brothers.
