Lumping these two sci-fi franchises in with each other isn't meant to do them a disservice; it just so happens that they're both dated far into the future and shrouded in secrecy! In the case of Avatar, its first sequel was supposed to be released on December 17th, 2021, but after a short delay in filming in New Zealand, it's now been pushed back to December 16th, 2022.

Avatar 3, 4, and 5 have all also been delayed by a year, with new release dates of December 20th, 2024, December 18th, 2026, and December 22nd, 2028 respectively. Whether those will ever actually happen is up for debate, but Disney is clearly looking far into the future.

As for Star Wars, while it's no secret that Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi is writing a new movie alongside 1917 scribe Krysty Wilson-Cairns, but there's been no word on Rian Johnson's rumoured trilogy. Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss, meanwhile, abandoned their Star Wars plans after signing a lucrative deal with Netflix.

Despite that, the Star Wars movies dated for 2022, 2024, and 2026 have all also been pushed back by a year with new release dates of December 22nd, 2023, December 19th, 2025, and December 17th, 2027.
