10 Laziest Animated Films Of All Time
7. Shark Tale (2004)
Shark Tale came out just one year after the gorgeous Finding Nemo (2003) and yet, doesn’t stop there to copy other movies more superior to it. It’s essentially a mafia story told with fish live in a city underneath the ocean. Most worryingly, this film was nominated at the Academy awards for the Oscar ‘Best Animated Feature Film of the Year’.
From start to finish, Shark Tale is rife with problems. The world building makes no sense – it’s basically New York in the sea, except with all the big name brands being changed to cringy fish puns, and the massive plot hole of electricity being able to function in deep waters. There was no thought process for the colour palette which gives us an ugly mesh of different textures and shades that don’t blend well together.
And it’s hard to tell where the story begins and where it ends. It overflows with so many unlikable, empty characters and lots of different twists in the narrative which make it harder to follow. It has some of the biggest names in cinema – Will Smith, Robert De Niro, Martin Scorsese, Angelina Jolie – and none of them can salvage the movie.
In short, Shark Tale is just a rip-off movie which tried to be the ‘cool’ version of Finding Nemo.
