10 Laziest Animated Films Of All Time
2. The Emoji Movie (2017)
Let's give The Emoji Movie some credit, the tagline described the film perfectly - it's not easy being meh. That's really about the highest praise you can give to it, a simple shrug for an uninteresting project which was created to cash in on the universally popular trend of using emoticons.
This is a movie which blatantly feeds off better animated movies such, such as Wreck-it Ralph and The Lego Movie, by taking their ideas and calling it their own. The story is about an emoji named Gene, born without a filter, and therefore can have any expression possible. But he longs to be a normal emoji. Naturally, as the 'characters' pre-existed before the film, there's very little originality and creativity centred within the story.
As well as an uninspired plot, the world building of Textopolis is extremely dull, with each suburb being more forgettable than the last. It's an animated movie where the producers felt they could pass it off as entertaining by shoehorning in many pop culture references, big Hollywood names as the voice actors and a modern pop soundtrack. It's lifeless, flat and not worth anyone's time.
