10 Least Accurate Movie Portrayals Of Comic Book Characters Ever

2. Deadpool

Initially introduced as a crude parody of DC Comics' sinister mercenary Deathstroke, Deadpool arrived in 1990 and quickly caught on with comic book fans, largely due to his never-ending wisecracks. The character donned a costume loosely resembling that of Spider-Man’s, and would constantly break the fourth wall.

Strangely, none of these traits are present in the character’s first appearance on the big screen, X Men Origins: Wolverine. In that 2009 film, the Merc with a Mouth is left without a mouth for much of Origins' runtime, rendering the antihero a boring enemy for Logan to fight. Unfortunately, the movie made no effort to convey the character’s fourth wall-breaking, wisecracking nature, which was hugely disappointing for fans.

Origins even traded Deadpool’s costume for a bland ninja suit, to then drop it altogether. Even Ryan Reynolds' stunt performer, Scott Adkins, thought the costume was awful, saying, "When I got the role and went down, I was excited. When they brought me in and I saw the concept art of the mouth sewn shut and the laser eyes and the claws that pop out, I thought, 'This isn't going to work.'"

Whilst this interpretation of the character retains his regenerative abilities, he still lacks his defining personality and iconic costume. In everything but name, Ryan Reynolds’ antihero in the film is completely unrecognisable.
