10 Least Convincing Nerd Characters In Cinema

10. Christian Slater - True Romance

Christian Slater has had a storied life and career and was known as something of a wild man in his younger days. He€™s been in trouble with the law a few times, and has experienced his share of drink, drugs and women. His most iconic role is probably that of J.D. in Heathers, where he seemed to channel a young Jack Nicholson as a teenage anarchist. So he may not be the obvious choice for the role of a shy, virginal comic book fan that falls in love with a prostitute. But that€™s the magic of the movies. Written by Tarantino, True Romance was intended by Sir Quentin to be his first film, and he based the character of Clarence on himself. He probably didn€™t steal a suitcase of cocaine from Gary Oldman in real life, but he probably shared the same thoughts and feelings as a shy young man. And while Slater is pretty good in the role, it€™s hard to buy him as an introverted loner who can spout off nerdy trivia at the drop of a hat. But it would have been even weirder if the role had gone to Brad Pitt, who was offered it first. He rejected the lead, thinking the script read like €œsome young guy€™s wet dream" (he took the smaller role of the stoned out roommate). If it€™s hard to be believe that Slater can€™t talk to women, it would have downright science fiction if Pitt had been cast.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
