10 Least Convincing Nerd Characters In Cinema

9. 50 Cent - Escape Plan

50 Cent never really took off as a movie star, and now spends most of his time in low budget action films that litter DVD shelves the world over. But he keeps trying, bless him. In 2013 he took a supporting role in Escape Plan, a thriller whose main selling point was the teaming up of Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The duo have to escape from an €œinescapable€ prison, and Mr. Cent plays Stallone€™s tech support, a former convict who€™s also nifty with a computer. The film expects the audience to kind of take its word on that though. Because whether he€™s doing some 3D rendering or using his high tech expertise to trace Stallone€™s location, 50 Cent€™s depiction of a computer whizz consists of looking at a computer screen, his eyes slightly narrowed. He hunches over a little and flatly reads off his dialogue, hoping it sounds convincing enough. None of this exactly screams computer genius. The film gets some marks for trying something different with its tech character, as rather than having some weedy kid they have a former con trying to turn his life around. It€™s an interesting idea, but in this case they probably should have got an actor capable of conveying emotions other than sleepiness and mild boredom.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
