7. Friday The 13th
It's hard to pinpoint the protagonist of the Friday the 13th series. Alice was the heroine of the first instalment, but was axed off pretty quickly in the sequel. Although Tommy has the most appearances, he acts like a different character each time and didn't speak at all in one entry.
According to horror veterans, the true final girl is the protagonist of Friday the 13th Part II - Ginny Field. Not only is she smart, resourceful, and adaptable, she's among the only main characters who didn't wind up dead. Because she's one of the few who walked away from Jason Voorhees with all her limbs and organs intact, Ginny has grown quite a fanbase.
Originally, F13 Part III would've centred around Ginny locked in a psychiatric institution, with the machete-wielding maniac breaking in to exact his revenge. However, actress Amy Steel passed on the offer, worried she would be typecast if she kept associating with the franchise.
But since Steel recently reprised the role in a 2021 fan film, it's safe to assume she's game for having a rematch with the hockey-mask wearing psychopath in an official sequel.
