10 Legacy Sequel Movies Everyone Actually Wants To See
1. The Color Of Money 2
With the phenomenal critical and commercial success of Top Gun: Maverick, it'll be interesting to see whether or not Tom Cruise considers revisiting any other franchises from his back catalogue.
Perhaps the most immediately obvious, potential-rich candidate is The Color of Money, Martin Scorsese's terrific sports drama which was released in 1986 - the very same year as Top Gun - and is itself one of Hollywood's first major legacy sequels, serving as a follow-up to 1961's The Hustler.
Paul Newman reprised the role of pool hustler Eddie "Fast Eddie" Felson in Scorsese's sequel, while Cruise played Vincent Lauria, a young hotshot Eddie takes under his wing.
And more than 35 years on, how fitting would it be to circle back to Vincent and see how life's been treating him in the decades since, all while he takes on a protege of his own?
Newman was 61 years old when The Color of Money was released, and Cruise himself turns 61 next year, so timing-wise it feels like the stars are very much aligning for this one.
It'd be great to get Scorsese back too, though given his ever-busy schedule that might be more of a tricky ask. Simply being back in this world and seeing Cruise in a more dramatic role that reminds us of his firm acting chops would be most welcome indeed.
