9. The Wolves - The Grey
The Legend: Fear of nature is primal. Its embedded deep within all of us and has been for a long time. We can imagine the fear of being lost in the wilderness and hunted by hungry animals that we have no control over and cant reason with. The huge mutated creatures lurking in the shadows of The Grey trailer promised an exhilarating ride in the unforgiving cold, far from civilization.
The Failure: Maybe this was just poor marketing. The movie was presented as an action thriller, a man versus nature movie with plenty of scenes of intellectual ingenuity failing to ruthless savagery. But we come to find out that this is more about Liam Neesons getting back to his wife than actually being hunted. You could make the argument that the wolves dont actually exist in the movie, they are just a representation of time running out against the elements. After all, a lot of their actions are off screen or suggested by dialogue.
