10 Legendary Rock Songs That Were Used Perfectly In Movies

5. Something in the Way - Nirvana

When picking songs to be used in movies, you have to be careful not to fall into cliches every now and again. For as perfect as they might seem on paper, using a song like We Are the Champions for a victory scene almost seems a little too on the nose these days to even work the same way it did when it was released. You need to get a little more obscure to find the perfect song, and Matt Reeves found the ideal backdrop for the Caped Crusader with Something in the Way.

Although Robert Pattinson's portrayal has led most people to assume that he'd listen to a lot of emo music, this haunting track at the end of Nevermind is a much better call. With only two chords to work with, Kurt Cobain hit on something that was a lot more primal than he had before, just using an out of tune guitar and his voice to get his point across. If you know about the origins of the song as well, the Batman correlation isn't that far off.

Kurt had talked about living under a bridge before Nirvana had actually blown up, and hearing him talk about his grimy lifestyle is suited to the kind of dirty wasteland that Gotham City has become. You also have to remember where it's placed in the movie, and it was ideal tone painting to have the bats flying around the Batcave during the line where Kurt sings about all the animals that he's trapped becoming his pets. In that one line, you're slowly being lured into the brooding environment of Wayne Manor.
