10 Legendary Rock Songs That Were Used Perfectly In Movies
2. Mr. Blue Sky - Electric Light Orchestra
Pretty much every single song on this list could have easily been replaced with the entirety of the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack. It's almost an act of accidental genius that somehow the visuals of defeating space monsters intercut with some of the greatest hits of the '70s managed to fit so well together. And if you thought that the songs had started to lose their charm after the first movie, the first few seconds of the sequel got you bobbing along all over again.
Before the title card even comes on screen, we're introduced to Baby Groot getting the tune set up for ELO's Mr. Blue Sky, all while the rest of the gang is in combat around him. For all of the action that's going on in this scene, it practically takes a back seat to the music, with Groot dancing his ass off for most of the song until Drax eventually smashes the cassette player by accident. It's also ideal to have a band like ELO soundtrack a movie like this, already having an otherwordly slant to their sound and making for something that's a lot more grandiose than your traditional fun rock and roll song.
From the first few notes of the song to the final outro, this makes you feel like you're about to witness one of the most operatic superhero movies of your life. The Guardians may be a lot better at the comedic side of things, but we were already preparing ourselves for something much bigger just from Star Lord's Awesome Mix.
