10 Lesser Known Comics That NEED To Be Movies
7. Lumberjanes
Lumberjanes is a coming of age, female-led and female-authored title with an interesting mix of fantasy and comedy, created by Grace Ellis and Shannon Watters under BOOM Studios.
The story is about a cabin of characters at a summer camp. More specifically, the five scouts of the Roanoke cabin—Jo, April, Molly, Mal, and Ripley, at Miss Qiunzella Thiskwin Penniquiqul Thistle Crumpet's Camp for Hardcore Lady Types. All campers are referred to as Lumberjanes.
There was a movie adaptation announced back in 2015 with FOX in charge. However, in 2019 when Disney acquired Fox, they released several Fox movies produced before the merger such as Dark Phoenix Saga and Stuber, which performed poorly at the box office.
In a reaction to this Disney cancelled several upcoming Fox projects. Unfortunately, Lumberjanes was one of those properties.
The comic series is popular with fans and critics alike. It has won and been nominated and won Eisner and GLAAD awards. Fans often refer to themselves as "Lumber Jumbies", and there is a large amount of them that want to see these characters on the big screen, or at least on DisneyPlus.
Lumberjanes works perfectly in line with the type of child-friendly movie Disney likes to make, so there is hope.
