10 Lesser Known Horror Movies That Are 100% Worth Your Time

Criminally underseen and yet appropriately mesmerising, 1997's Japanese horror film Cure is an astonishingly original offering from the great Kiyoshi Kurosawa (Pulse).

Cure follows a detective investigating a series of brutal murders across Tokyo, whereby each perpetrator is typically discovered nearby with no memory of their crime.

Kurosawa clearly relishes examining the well-worn tropes of the serial killer movie and turning them inside out, taking the seemingly supernatural aspect of the story and tethering it to the ground with a tonal sure-handedness reminiscent of David Fincher's Se7en.

Without getting into too much detail, Cure carves out a unique niche for itself in the horror genre - ever a tricky rarity - while immersing both its characters and the audience in an atmosphere so damn thick you could almost choke on it.

Despite continuing to be held in a high regard, Cure never quite became a pop-culture phenom like J-horror successors Ringu and Ju-On: The Grudge, but it's absolutely deserving of your time and attention.

The fact that almost 30 years have passed without Hollywood remaking it is staggering, honestly.
