10 Lesser Known Movies To Look Forward To In 2017
4. Psiconautas
Amidst the slew of
dross that is some of the marquee releases this year, it seems that 2017 is
going to be sneaky good when it comes to animated movies; there's a lot to be excited for thanks to Coco and
The Red Turtle to My Life as a Zucchini, Ferdinand and Chuck Steel: Night of
the Trampire s- the best named movie of the decade, bar none.
But Spanish project Psiconautas might be the dark horse, with a serious emphasis on the dark. Based on Alberto Vazquez’s graphic novel, Psiconautas looks like it will tear apart the double helixes that make up your heart and eat it. From a trailer that is filled with macabre minimalism and panoramic vistas of desolation punctuated with organ eating avian demons and hellfyre.
Intense desolation offset with unwavering hope and a baroque dubby musical score that will singe those tiny bones found in the inner ear. It’s scathing in its commentary and it bites like an icy breeze.
A festival circuit favourite, Psiconautas is not a cartoon; it’s an animated movie.
