10 Lessons Comic Book Movies Can Learn From Guardians Of The Galaxy
4. Dare To Experiment
When Marvel announced that Guardians Of The Galaxy was getting a film adaptation, there was one word on the majority of people's lips: ' Who?!' Taking a risk with one of Marvel's less known franchises was a bold move in itself, and choosing to make the film weirder than any other blockbuster before had ever dared was an even more out there decision. Yet considering the film took over $90 million dollars in its opening week, it seems that it's a risk that has more than paid off. Contrary to what big studios' marketing reports say, people don't actually want to see the same recycled garbage constantly- and the massive success this film gained through word of mouth is testament to that. In 2014 audiences are arguably more informed and open minded that ever before, and it was refreshing to see Gunn throw a complete curveball at movie-goers. Employing Vin Deisel at all is a bit of a risk, but who knew that the greatest acting of his career would be playing an almost mute tree? Risks people, delicious risks. Hopefully, this encourages Marvel and other comic book entities to try and produce more experimental and off the wall films in the future. Please?
