10 Lessons Star Wars Episode 7 Can Learn From The Prequels

5. Chewy Get Us Out Of Here: Memorable Lines

Of Star Wars Episode IV, Harrison Ford was famously quoted as saying, €œGeorge, you can type this sh*t but you sure as hell can€™t say it.€ And while some of those lines may have been hard to say, there was plenty of snappy dialogue and many memorable lines in the original Star Wars movies. It was a chilling moment for moviegoers when Darth Vader said, €œLuke. I am your father.€ When George Lucas approached director/screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan about writing and/or directing the prequels, Kasdan declined. Kasdan said, these are your stories, George, you tell them, you direct them. Kasdan co-scripted The Return of the Jedi and what is generally considered to be the best written of all the Star Wars films, The Empire Strikes Back (sharing screen credit with Leigh Brackett). The result was that the most memorable lines from the sequels were the bad ones. €œLove won€™t save you, Padme. Only my new powers can do that,€ €œAni? My goodness, you€™ve grown!€ and €œYousa thinking yousa people ganna die?€ are but the tip of that wretched iceberg. Having Kasdan return to the Star Wars bullpen bodes well for Episode VII. We can€™t imagine Kasdan writing a line €œNOOOOOOOOO!€
