10 Lessons Star Wars Episode 7 Can Learn From The Prequels

6. Jar-Jar Binks. 'Nuff Said.

Perhaps one of the most controversial and divisive aspects of the Star Wars prequels was the presence of the foppishly cartoonish Jar Jar Binks. So bumbling and buffoonish was Jar Jar that he seemed more of an interloper than an actual character in the film. One could speculate that his presence in The Phantom Menace was to appeal to kids. Or to provide comic relief. Either way, it didn€™t work. With his inexplicable Jamaican roots, Jar Jar Binks became the most reviled character in the Star Wars universe. If anything is to be learned from the Star Wars prequels, it€™s the lesson of Jar Jar. New characters don€™t have to be human to be relatable. Look at Yoda in Episode IV. Star Wars Episode VII should avoid ethnic and racial stereotypes and clownish slapstick characters. And if it doesn€™t, they should be killed off early. That might appease the fans.
