But he actually shot a really cute independent film back in 2000, one whose 2002 distribution deal was presumably hastened by The Pianist's success that same year. It's about a shy eccentric young man and his foray into ventriloquism, which is alternately aided and impeded by his dysfunctional family and klezmer music-playing best friend Fangora. It only had a limited release in theaters, but was a surprisingly charming and unique film with likable performances from stars Adrien Brody and Milla Jovovich.
