10 Longest Gaps Between Superhero Movie Appearances

7. Red Skull/Hugo Weaving/Ross Marquand - The First Avenger To Avengers: Infinity War (Seven Years)

Perhaps the most formidable villain to have ever been restricted to just one MCU appearance was always bound to make a highly anticipated return at some point. And while Johann Schmidt was referenced in The Winter Soldier, on the back of being sucked into space by the Space Stone in 2011's First Avenger, fans had to wait a staggering seven years to see what actually happened to the former head of HYDRA.

Popping up during the first part of the double-whammy ending to the Infinity Saga, Red Skull was revealed to have been forced to act as the Soul Stonekeeper on Vormir.

Sure, Hugo Weaving wasn't along for the ride this time around, thanks largely to an earlier Marvel contract dispute. But Ross Marquand helped combine the gravitas of Weaving's performance with an otherworldly-type energy that made for a Red Skull that was familiar yet noticeably altered by his time off-Earth.

Marquand himself has noted how once the Soul stone is retrieved, as it is on two occasions in the MCU, Red Skull is essentially free to do as he pleases. Could that signal another return for The Walking Dead star in the future? You wouldn't bet against it.
