Juno was the 2007 surprise hit of the year, from director Jason Reitman and starring Ellen Page as Juno MacGuff, an independent teenager confronting the emotional and physical pressures from realising that she is pregnant. The films initial premise may be presumed to be a very dark, moody drama but instead screenwriter Diablo Cody has infused warmth, character and charm to make it an emotive comedy that stuck with critics and audiences alike. With other performances such as Michael Cera as the awkwardly shy Paulie Bleeker and J.K Simmons playing Juno's brilliantly blunt father, the film was an overwhelming success critically and commercially Produced on a budget of around $7 million, the film snowballed as the film received critical acclaim with its emotive depiction of teen pregnancy, eventually ending up with a worldwide total of $231 million. Diablo Cody also won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.
