When Daniel Radcliffe was finished with the Harry Potter series, making the switch to horror seemed like a drastic move. However, The Woman In Black was a sensation that stole the hearts of horror fans worldwide.

Based off the stage show, which is in turn based off the novel by Susan Hill, The Woman In Black follows Arthur Kipps, a banker who must deal with the sudden passing of a wealthy client. Spookiness ensues and one of the jumpiest ghost stories of the last decade takes place.

Director James Watkins manages to create an incredible amount of tension in this film due to the lack of dialogue. Most of the story focuses on Kipps alone in Eel Marsh house, a huge manor in the middle of marshland. This means that footsteps are heard, the house creaks and animals fly from every direction resulting in some terrifying jump scares.

Oh, and all that takes place in the day!

When the day turns into night and the ghostly occurrences start happening, the jump scares ramp up to an unbearable level. The most famous scene comes in the form of a rocking chair in which we see the face of The Woman In Black as it slowly creaks backwards and forwards, in and out of the frame. Taken straight from the stage show, this scene will have you hiding behind the sofa.
